Priceline

Using Priceline to Find Cheap Hotels in Savannah

One of the best ways to find cheap hotels in Savannah is through Priceline’s Name Your Own Price Service. Because Priceline allows you to rebid (naming your own price) it is in your best interest to know where to start to bid and how to maximize the number of bids that you have…

If you don’t know where to start your bid and/or don’t know how to rebid, you’ll be forced to bid high.

Betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com allow users to post winning bids for the Savannah area, which specify which zone the winning bid was for, what star level it was for, what dates it was for, and, of course, what the winning bid amount was. If you search for the Savannah area on Priceline you’ll see that there are 6 zones available.

Savannah Airport (SAV)
Savannah Gateway
Savannah Historic District
Savannah Midtown
Savannah North
Savannah West-Garden City

If you go to both of the aforementioned sites you’ll see recent winning bids for each zone. For example, for the Savannah Historic District I saw winning bids from $60-$90 for a 31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus star hotel. Although most of the winning bids were closer to $90, I’d start my bid at $60 and bid higher each time (which I’ll tell you how to do pretty soon). Unfortunately, you’ll find that for some zones, there aren’t many recent bids posted.

If you click and unclick on each zone you’ll find the maximum available star level within each zone.

Savannah Airport (SAV): 3-Star Upscale
Savannah Gateway: 21⁄2-Star Moderate-Plus
Savannah Historic District: Resorts
Savannah Midtown: 3-Star Upscale
Savannah North: 21⁄2-Star Moderate-Plus
Savannah West-Garden City: 2-Star Moderate

Why did I put down “Resorts” as being the maximum available star level in the Historic District zone? Although it is on the bottom of the list, according to Betterbidding.com, resorts are rated higher than 4-Star Deluxe in Priceline’s system.

Why did I find out the maximum (“best”) star level for each zone? Because knowing this information will allow us to figure out what the dummy zones are so that you can rebid.

Let’s say that you want to bid for a 3-Star Upscale hotel in Savannah Midtown (3-Star Upscale is your chosen star level and Midtown is your one chosen zone). Your first bid gets rejected. Priceline allows you to rebid immediately if you change something about your criteria: your star level, dates, or zone criteria. I’m pretty sure that you don’t want to change anything in order for you to bid again. How do you do this? Simply change the zone criteria by adding a zone whose maximum available star level is lower than the one which you are bidding on. To bid again right away in our example, simply add the Savannah North zone because its maximum star level is only 21⁄2-Star Moderate-Plus. When you bid again with the Savannah Midtown zone and Savannah North zone (your dummy zone), you know you won’t end up staying in the Savannah North zone because its maximum star level is only 21⁄2-Star Moderate-Plus, lower than your chosen star level, which is 3-Star Upscale.

There are, of course, many ways you can rebid. Below I show you how you should bid for each zone by telling you what zones you should have selected for each rebid. For each green bid (odd numbered except the first one) you’re going to have to start a brand new bid by clicking the Priceline logo in the top left hand corner because Priceline does not allow you to easily change your zones (you’ll see what I mean once you start bidding yourself).

Any zone except West-Garden (21⁄2-Star Moderate-Plus as chosen star level), substitute either zone into letter “A”.

2. A+West-Garden

Unfortunately, there are no rebids available if you select 2-Star Moderate or 1-Star Economy because there are no dummy zones, which we can use.

Above I’ve covered all the rebids you could possibly have if you want to rebid again without changing anything about your stay. If your zone location is flexible and you happen to run out of bids for one zone, try the rebids for another zone. If you run out of bids for one star level in a zone, try to bid for the same zone using another star level.

Chattanooga Cheap Hotels Guide

How do you find cheap hotels in hotels in Chattanooga?

How do you find cheap hotels in hotels in Chattanooga?

If you are looking for Chattanooga cheap hotels, you’ve come to the right place. Although it’s going to take a little work on your part to utilize this information, you’ll get amazing deals on hotels. Is start off by discussing Priceline. If you would like to know the exact hotel you’ll be staying in, in Chattanooga, scroll down past the Priceline and Hotwire sections.

Priceline:

One of the best ways to find cheap hotels in Chattanooga is through Priceline, whose hallmark feature Name Your Own Price Service allows you to bid on hotels. Although you won’t know the exact hotel you’ll be staying in, you’ll know the
approximate location of it as well as the amount of stars it has. Once Priceline accepts your bid, your credit card is charged.

The key to getting the very best price on Priceline is utilizing Name Your Own Price’s bidding feature to the fullest. Although can get a great deal on Priceline even if you only bid once, if you know how to rebid many times you can have a lower starting bid and bid up a little, guaranteeing yourself the best price possible. You can rebid immediately if you change something about your bid, otherwise you can rebid again after 24 hours. I doubt that you want to wait that long. Priceline allows you to rebid again if you change something about your search criteria. This could be your dates, star level, or your zones. Because your dates are not flexible and you want a guaranteed star level, the only thing left to change is to change your zones. You might be thinking that changing your zones involves staying in a zone, which you really don’t feel like staying in. This is not the case. The key is to use “dummy zones” to rebid again…

But before I tell you how to rebid, you should get an idea of where to start your bid in the first place. Betterbidding.com and Biddingfortravel.com let users post their Priceline winning bids. These posted bids should give you a good idea of where you should start your bid as well as where you’ll be staying in (note that nothing is guaranteed in terms of where you’ll be staying, even if other users got a hotel you’re interested in). At the time this article there were many posted bids from both sites for the downtown zone for the 3-Star Upscale (winning bids were around $50) and 31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus star levels (winning bids were around $65). Unfortunately, there were not many posted bids for the other 5 zones. Regardless, the winning bids for the 3-Star Upscale and 31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus in the downtown zone give us an idea of what the prices will be in other zones for these star levels.

When you search for Chattanooga under Name Your Own Price you’ll see six zones:

Chattanooga Airport (CHA)
Chattanooga South
Downtown Chattanooga
Hixson
Lookout Mountain
Ringgold, GA

If you click and unclick on each zone you’ll find each zone’s maximum star level:

Chattanooga Airport (CHA): 3-Star Upscale
Chattanooga South: 2-Star Moderate
Downtown Chattanooga: 31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus
Hixson: 21⁄2 Moderate-Plus
Lookout Mountain: 21⁄2 Moderate-Plus
Ringgold, GA: 2-Star Moderate

Why do you want to know the maximum star level available within each zone? It allows you to use “dummy zones”, which allow you to rebid.

Rebidding basics

Say you want to stay in a 31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus hotel in the Downtown Chattanooga zone (31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus is your chosen star level). Based on the winning bids from betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com you decide to start your bid at $58. You get rejected. You can rebid immediately if you change your zone criteria. At the rejection screen add the Chattanooga Airport zone for a total of two zones (Downtown and Airport). Because the maximum star level for the Airport zone is 3-Star Upscale you know you won’t end up staying there because your chosen/minimum star level is 31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus! You’ve used the Airport zone as your dummy zone to rebid again! Now, Airport isn’t the only dummy zone you can use. If you look at the maximum star level for each zone, all the zones except Downtown are your dummy zones because their maximum star levels are lower than the star level which you are bidding on (31⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus). But, in order to fully use all of these zones you have to bid in a particular order because the rejection screen does not allow you to change zones (you’ll see what I mean once you try bidding yourself). Here are all the possible bids, utilizing all of the possible dummy zones, not only for the downtown zone, but for all the zones…

Rebidding Guide for Each Zone

You’ll notice that the lower your chosen star level is, the less “dummy” zones there are. Why? Because the lower star rating you choose, the less zones there are with a maximum star rating below your chosen star level.

Under each zone and available star level I list how many bids you have and what zones you should have selected for each bid. For every odd numbered bid (except the first one), you’re going to have to start a new bid bid by clicking the Priceline logo at the top of the rejection screen in the top left hand corner.

Above I’ve given all the possible rebids that there are. For the Chattanooga area you should be bidding for at least a 3-Star Upscale hotel, even though I’ve told you how to rebid for the 21⁄2 Moderate-Plus star level. The lower your chosen star level is, the less of a “deal” you’ll get. Besides, you can already get a 3-Star Upscale hotel for around $50 without tax, that’s how much the cheapest hotels are on standard hotel booking sites such as hotels.com and cheaptickets.com.

Hotwire:

Although Priceline can get you a good deal, it has its drawbacks, which I explain fully in Priceline vs. Hotwire.

Browse the Standard Booking Sites:

Is there a booking site out there, which always gives the best prices? Unfortunately, no. Travelocity can have good prices for one particular search criteria and Hotels.com can have good prices for another search criteria. The websites from the hotels themselves often have good prices as well. You can, of course, use metasearch sites such as Kayak.com, which gather data from all the booking sites and allow you to search your criteria by lowest price.

But be weary that whenever you only sort by price, whether that is from one of the booking sites or one of the metasearch sites, price is not the only thing that matters. If find that many times, the lowest prices are for particular room options which are non-refundable. If you want to book a room with an admirable cancellation policy, gather prices from several of the major booking sites (Hotels.com, Cheaptickets.com, Priceline.com etc) and, just to make sure, get a price from the hotel’s website.

If you are set on having the lowest price, keep in mind that different sites have different price assurance policies. Hotel rates change all the time. If you’re looking for a low price you want to make sure that it will stay the low price. I explore this issue fully in Price Match Guarantees. So far, which site offers the best price assurance policy is inconclusive.

Whichever way you choose to book, there is no perfect way. Because hotel prices bottom out at some point, as long as you shop around for 5 minutes online, you should get a very competitive price.

Call the hotel:

Once you find a hotel price online, call the hotel to see if they can’t match it.

There are many, many sites out there from which you can get hotel deals. Just keep in mind that when you are looking for Chattanooga cheap hotels, there is no best way to get a hotel deal.

Louisville Cheap Hotels: Finding them on Priceline

courtesy Priceline.com

courtesy Priceline.com

One of the ways to find Louisville cheap hotels is by using Priceline’s Name Your Own Price option, which allows you to bid for cheap hotels in Louisville. Although you won’t know the exact place you’ll be staying in (you find out what hotel you’ll have only once your credit card is charged), the kinds of prices it gives you more than makes up for the uncertainty. While you’re bidding the only 2 things that you will know about your hotel is the general area it will be in and minimum amount of stars it will have. Why the ambiguity?

When hotels have rooms which are left unsold they use Priceline to fill them. As such, Priceline connects bargain shopping customers who do not mind not knowing which hotel they’ll be staying in, with these hotels.

The key to getting the best price possible on Priceline is how you bid. If you only know how to bid one time, you’ll be forced to bid high. If you know how to bid many times, you can bid low from the beginning and increase your bid by a little bit each time, guaranteeing that you get the lowest price possible on Priceline. How do you rebid many times?

Although the rebidding method is not shown on Priceline’s website, it is prevalent elsewhere on the web.

Search Louisville in Priceline and you’ll notice that it gives you 6 zones:

Brooks – Shepherdsville
Louisville Airport Area (SDF)
Louisville Downtown
Louisville East
Louisville North
Louisville Southwest

By clicking and unclicking on each zone you’ll find out the maximum star level available within each zone:

Brooks – Shepherdsville: 2-Star Moderate
Louisville Airport Area (SDF): 3-Star Upscale
Louisville Downtown: 4-Star Deluxe
Louisville East: 3-Star Upscale
Louisville North: 3-Star Upscale
Louisville Southwest: 2 1⁄2-Star Moderate-Plus

Why do you have to find out the maximum star level? Because it is the key to rebidding…

I’m assuming here that you want to stay in a hotel that is at least 3-Star Upscale. This means that you can only bid for the zones which contain at least 3 stars (Louisville Airport Area, Louisville Downtown, Louisville East, Louisville North). If you want immediate rebids you simply include additional zones in your bid that do not include your minimum/chosen star level. This way you get immediate rebids. Because these dummy zones do not include your chosen star level, you know you won’t get stuck in these “dummy”: zones.

Louisville Airport Area, Louisville East, Louisville North, or Louisville Downtown can each be substituted for the “bid zone” you see below. How much should you start the bid for each zone? Check betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com. In the Kentucky zone of each website you’ll see the winning bids for 3 Star Upscale hotels within each zone.

If your 4 bids for one of these 3 zones does not work, you still have 2 zones with 4 bids each. (make sure to have 3-Star Upscale at all times as your chosen star level)

1. bid zone
2. bid zone+Brooks – Shepherdsville
3. bid zone+Louisville Southwest
4. bid zone+Louisville Southwest+Brooks – Shepherdsville

For bid 3 you’re going to have to start brand new bid by clicking the Priceline logo at the rejection screen (check picture at end of article)

For bids 2 and 4 you simply add the additional zones (check the picture at the end of article)

If you want 4-Star Deluxe or 3 1⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus you only have Louisville Downtown with which to work with because it is the only zone which contains 4-Star Deluxe and 3 1⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus. What should your first bid be? I checked out biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com.

If you want 4-Star Deluxe as your chosen/minimum star level: At the time this article was written there were only several winning bids posted dating back to 2007. These bids were in the neighborhood of $90. I’d start bidding at $65 with $5 increments. Or you can start at $80 with $2 bid increments. It’s all up to you.

If you want 3 1⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus as your chosen/minimum star level: I saw recent bid for around $55.

Despite what I saw, you should still check yourself. By the time you read this article there will be newer recent bids posted.

You have 32 bids available! Feel free to mix it up:

(Make sure to have 4-Star Deluxe or 3 1⁄2-Star Upscale-Plus as your chosen star level for all bids and that your bid higher each time, otherwise you are wasting your bids.)

For every even numbered bid you simply add a zone to where it says “Can you select additional areas where you can stay?” For every odd numbered bid after the first bid (3,5,7,…) you’re going to have to start a new bid by clicking the Priceline logo in the top left corner of the rejection screen.

A big thanks to betterbidding.com and biddingfortravel.com Although both sites talk about permutation method which I use to help you, biddingfortravel.com has an “advanced rebidding” post which places all the permutations in a logical order, thus making you start a new bid every other bid rather than for most of the bids (you’ll see what I mean once you start bidding yourself).

Happy bidding! With this method you are sure find Louisville cheap hotels!
